Y'all have been asking me about these manis on Insta so here we go—my full imPRESS nails review!

I don't know if you've noticed, but a few months ago press-on nails became super popular.

It was perfect timing too because now that all the nail salons are closed and we're quarantining, they're the perfect option for an at-home manicure that looks AMAZING.

I tried out Kiss imPRESS press-on nails last year and you guys, I was shook. The addiction is real. If you follow me on TikTok (yes I'm on TikTok now, thanks to quarantine), you've seen a few videos with my imPRESS manicures, and I've also been sharing them on Instagram a bunch. I am legit obsessed!

Press-on nails have come a long way since I last used them in middle school. So I'm sharing an imPRESS nails review, with all the deets on where I buy them and tips for how I get them to last up to two weeks.

I've never had great nails. I have girlfriends who can grow these gorgeous, long nails that they just paint themselves and it looks like a freaking salon manicure. That is just not my truth. No matter how much collagen I consume, my nails always break.

And I hate going to nail salons (which I know isn't even an option for all of us quarantining right now).

I know some people love going to get their nails done and it's like a treat for them, and if that's you, good for you girl. Treat yourself to a mani after quarantine is over.

But for me, it just drives me crazy how long it takes to sit there and I can't even multitask. It feels like such a waste of time to me. Plus, going to nail salons is a really expensive habit!

Doing my own nails at home with an imPRESS manicure solves both of these issues for me because it's cheap—you can find them on sale at Target for $6, and current styles on imPRESS' site range from $8 – 11, depending on if they have embellishments or not.

And each set includes 30 nails, so I can get two full manicures from one box. Depending on the size of your fingers, you may end up with some odd sizing leftover (for example, the largest thumb size is too big for my thumb, so those are always leftover).

But do the math—that's ~$3 a manicure.

And it's so quick and easy. Start to finish, it takes me 10 minutes to apply my imPRESS nails! Such a time saver.

Ok, let's get to it! Here's my review and tips for how I make my press-on nails last!

The Best At-Home Manicure: imPRESS Nails Review

Follow the directions.

First and foremost, follow the directions on the box.

Use an orangewood stick to push back your cuticles. Each set comes with one, but I have my own that I like to use.

I then trim my cuticles so that everything looks nice and clean. I use this style cuticle trimmer—I like it better than the ones that are shaped like pliers because I find this style easier to use with my left hand.

Then make sure to use the alcohol swab that's included in the kit to remove any oils from your natural nails. You can also use an acetone nail polish remover for future manicures after you've used the included swab.

Lay out your nails.

Next, go through and decide which nails you want on each finger.

If you're doing a mani with a solid color you're just looking at sizing here, but if you have a set with different designs, see what looks good to you.

Sometimes I like to do an accent nail on just my ring fingers, sometimes two accents on my pointer and ring fingers…you can really just play around here and see what looks good to you.

If you're choosing between a nail that's a little too small or a little too big, go with the smaller option. If you go with a nail that's too big for your finger and is overlapping on your skin it's going to fall off pretty quickly.

The nails also have little numbers underneath them, so once you find the right sizing for you, you can easily find the right numbers/sizes going forward.

File your press-on nails.

I do a quick file for my nails because they usually have a little tiny plastic bump on the ends (probably just from the way they're manufactured), and smoothing that out takes just a couple seconds.

I usually do a little extra filling because I like them to be not quite so long.

Do your mani at night right before you go to bed.

I like to do my mani at this time because then I'm giving my nails all night to really stick to my nails. I'm not running them under water, going about my day-to-day, etc.

Use gloves when you do the dishes.

To help my nails last longer, I always wear gloves when I'm doing dishes.

Carry a few extra nails in your purse in case one pops off.

When I'm not quarantining, I got this cute little pill case to carry a few extra nails in. That way if one happens to get snagged on something and pops off, I can just pop another one back on.

Since there's already an adhesive on the nails and there's no glue required for application, it's really easy and not messy.

Get some nail glue so you can reuse a nail that pops off.

Ok I know I just said there's no glue required, and that's true, but one trick I've been doing lately is using nail glue to reuse a nail that pops off.

This one is $2 on Amazon and works great. Sometimes a nail will get snagged on something and come off, or a nail will start to lift at the base (which is annoying because then my hair gets stuck in it).

If it pops off I'll just put it back on with nail glue and that way I'm not having to use a brand new nail that I can use instead for a future mani.

And if a nail starts to lift at the bottom (honestly it's usually my pointer fingers because those are the ones I use for zit-popping, lolllll TMI??) I'll just add a drop of nail glue and that solves the issue!

I've also started using nail glue right off the bat when I apply my imPRESS nails in addition to the adhesive already on the nails, and this also helps your mani last longer.

Buy from recent nail collections.

imPRESS comes out with new collections on a pretty regular basis—maybe even monthly, I'm not 100% sure. I just know it's April now and I see some of the same styles on their site from March, with a few new ones.

And when I first started buying press-on nails from them back in November they had all the cute holiday styles available. Anyways, my point is that since they're constantly coming out with new designs, sometimes popular designs go out of stock fast.

I've also tried ordering some designs on eBay when they're no longer available on the imPRESS website, Walmart, Target, Ulta, etc. I've found some really cute ones on eBay like these hot pink with leopard accent nails (obsessed).

However, I will say that I've noticed their older designs chip easier, and the newer designs from more recent collections last a lot longer. That doesn't mean you shouldn't buy the older designs if there's a style you really love, but just manage your expectations and know that older ones may only last you a week, rather than two weeks.

Which again is not necessarily a bad thing—sometimes after a week I'm ready to pop my nails off and try a new style.

Buy short length, not medium.

Unless you're used to having super long couture nails, I'd recommend going with the short length imPRESS nails. The medium ones are just too long for me. The "short" ones have plenty of length and I even file those down a bit.

Oval vs square.

imPress has a couple different shape options—oval and square nails. While I love the oval shape and I think they look so elegant and chic, I did want to let y'all know that I find it hard af to type with the oval shape nails, both on my laptop and on my phone.

Since I'm an efficiency freak, this drives me crazy. So I usually opt for their square-shaped nails because they still look really chic, but they don't give me have a ton of difficulty typing.

And then if I'm going on vacation (hopefully soon!) I'll plan to use my oval ones since I won't be in work/efficiency mode.
